A Little Fancy...

On the rare occasion I get a day off and don't actually find myself obligated to do this thing or the other, I love to chill. Some days, you just have to. On these days, my outfits tend to be quite low key. You won't catch me in anything but a flat and I can promise my hair won't be straight or blown out. Today...is one of those days. But, instead of just resigning myself to a white tank and cutoffs, I threw on this lovely fringe cape. I feel like a gypsy in it, which is kind of fabulous. I have a feeling it's going to pop up in several outfit posts throughout the summer, even though it's black, and drapey. I LOVE fringe. I can't help myself! And anything that even slightly smacks of a vintage grandmotherly print....count me in.

Excuse me, is that "Sartorially Correct?"

I stumbled upon an article on Refinery 29 this morning that was especially interesting to me, considering my work in the retail industry. The ever popular "festival" girl doesn't seem to be leaving us at least until after summer, and with it brings print after bohemian print usually derived from one indigenous culture or another somewhere remote and seemingly exotic. I suppose prints from far away lands bring out the wanderlust in all of us and so helplessly enthrall us in the whimsy of the (recently not so) mysteriously beheld "hippy" lifestyle.

But, recognizing the difference between textiles can be difficult, even for those in the proverbial "biz." So, how does any customer, whether shopping limited label Missoni or at the Gap, really know what to ask for? Does it really matter what the print is called in regards to its cultural origin? I can't be sure. I don't think any smart retailer sets out to offend cultural groups, if not only because it's hardly savvy business practice. But, is it possible we've become too "politically correct?" So much so that we have to make up ridiculously hard to remember and sometimes even more difficult to pronounce names for Hawaiian shirts? (Ahem: Aloha Print...alright so that one is pretty simple.) Just a thought.....perhaps a totally off base one at that. However, considering it is my blog, I suppose I'm allowed to rant then? :) I would love to hear opinions about this one, though. Tell me I'm wrong! Nothing I love more than a good style debate. :) :)

Day after day after day after day....

Super busy as of late. I'm bummed out that I haven't had time to do a proper outfit post this week. But, the concert last week was such a blast! Beach House is so dreamy. Like take your breath away, make you think about your life lovely. Victoria Legrand's voice is a dream. Anyway, I got home in just enough time to grab a shower and a three hour nap and then off to Tennessee! (which was also amazing...and so beautiful.) Snapshots ensued.

Beach house Rocks.

One wish: Victoria Legrand's hair.

River House!

I'm going to see Beach House tomorrow night! Legitimately...so so so excited. Beach House is just one of those bands that can not put out a bad album. So dreamy. I can't wait for their newest, Bloom to come out next week considering that I'm already obsessed with this song. I am also going to be incredibly tired because I'm leaving for Tennessee at 5 am the following day! Totally worth it. But, in order to save on sleep, I need to hit the hay like...yeah right now. :) Vacation posts will certainly be up next week!

Be Still My Heart...

Once upon a time, I was in a department store. When I was ten or eleven, I remember being with my Mom at Dillard's semi-annual shoe sale. What was originally intended to be a trip to the mall turned into a day of shopping. I sat in the Womens shoe section for about two hours that day. (A fact I feel sure my Mom will deny even today.) I was utterly unamused and I think I thought I would die of boredom.

It's ironic because for the past decade, (give or take a few....ok fine give a few) I've developed a somewhat unhealthy obsession with shoes. I adore all types of fashion, but there's something about footwear that makes my heart ache. It's very convenient that I can blame it on genetics. ;) Now days, my job gives me reason to sift through various blogs and websites for new trends in accessories and I don't even have to feel bad about it. :) These are the things I'm most obsessed with as of late....

We'll All Take Our Chances....

I’m obsessed with print right now. I found this floral print vintage dress when I was in Savannah last week at Civvies. I feel like it’s such a rare thing to find a dress like this that doesn’t require any alterations (which I wouldn’t have minded providing at the price I snatched this up for.) I got lucky!

It (like this dress) also blows in the wind when I walk and I’m pretty obsessed with that. J
