Simplicity...

armysurplusjacket/vintage  floralwedges/UO  watch+eyeglasses/MichaelKors  dress/F21

I'm keeping it rather simple today in this get up. But, my hair is lighter again! It's really weird, I feel like myself all over again. I'd been wearing the heck out of the ombre look for a while now and really liked it, but it was definitely time for a change. This strawberry blonde gets me in the mood for fall. (I realize it is only July.) :) Obsessed.

I refuse to take this army surplus jacket off. What a fantastic color this olive is. I want to wear it with everything and have therefore found myself in it for the last three days. :/ Alas, I think I'll hang it up tonight so as not to wear off the new too quickly. That baby is going to be a lifesaver come Autumn! It was on my list of wardrobe additions I have prepared for Fall, so it felt really great to put a big fat check next to it!

Vampire Hunter...

blazer/NastyGal  bag+zebrabracelet/UO  shorts/vintageLevi's  belt(as bracelet)/cottonon  watch/MichaelKors

I got the cobalt beach club blazer from Nasty Gal in the mail this week and was simply delighted. I love getting things in the mail. It's like Christmas in the middle of the year. :) NG is still having a great summer sale and I suggest checking it out quickly before it's all gone.

This hair dye is not permanent for the record. However, it soon shall be. I wanted to give it a test run with washable dye before I had my stylist do the real thing. I have to say....I'm a tad obsessed. I adore it so much that I'm definitely going to commit to the permanent dye. (Permanent being relative since color washes out of my hair like no tomorrow! I give it a month...)

I'm going to keep it relatively short tonight because I just bought Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and I'm more than a little excited about that.

We Own the Sky...

dress+sunnies/UO  sandals/DolceVita watch/MichaelKors

It is literally impossible to dress conservatively in the southern hemisphere of the United States this week. The heat index is over 100 degrees every single day in Florida. Wearing more than one layer is exhausting.

But, I'm trying to make the best of it and therefore I think I have officially entered into "little dress mode." There is something so comfy and easy about a sundress. I love this one because it has a little something unique about it. The asymmetrical hem is so delicate and thus so very perfect for these scorching temps. I also don't hate the chance to wear these super lovely Dolce Vita rope sole sandals. I can't believe it, I'm actually enjoying getting dressed for summer. Who knew? I suspect this rogue contentment will end before August, shortly after I peep through some Fall advertisements and can't contain my desire to layer myself in scarves and tweed.

Thank you Starbucks for preventing dehydration. The title of this blog is an M83 song title. <3 summer tunes.

Not sure of the reason behind the animal print excitement all of a sudden. But, you know.....I don't hate it one bit.

Standing on One Leg

It has been pouring buckets in town! We haven't had a break from the rain here in a solid week. I have to admit, I'm quite a fan of the rain and would prefer this type of weather over the scorching sun any day of the week. But, it's proven very difficult to get around in! I went to dinner in this dress Friday night and got soaked on the way out of the restaurant. The under layer of this beauty is sheer so......there was almost a wardrobe mishap going on. Luckily, I was with my BFF and we just hopped right in the car and made the trip home so i could change into some sweats and make some hot tea!

I picked up this lovely dress at a shop out at the beaches when I was there for lunch with a friend from college last week. We decided to do some perusing at the local surf shops and I fell in love with this frock. Like love at first sight..pick me up..check out now kind of a relationship. Feel me? I'm sooo glad I got it. It's part of the new Billabong line for summer. At the risk of sounding repetitive, I LOVE HI-LO skirts. I have a strange affinity for anything whimsical or old world and when this skirt ripples behind me as I walk, I feel like a princess! It creates such a dramatic effect and who couldn't use a little more drama in their wardrobe? :)

I think the print is really clever as well. This flamingo print is perfectly summer and yet its a great moody black and white, and thus perfectly suited for my wardrobe. In case you haven't noticed, I steer clear of too much color. A pop here and there is usually all you'll get from me. I'm pretty much obsessed with black. It's so classic and therefore enables me to accurately represent who I am, even if I'm taking a small sartorial risk or trying a new trend. Black always saves the day. Some of the most iconic fashion heroines (Audrey and Coco and Marilyn..anyone?) were most often seen in darker hues or simple crispy white. Always a good idea to take a nod from those who've already done it best.

Americana

I did this shoot a few weeks ago with my friend Brian of BGPhoto. We were doing a piece about colored denim and since the pants were red and the shirt was faded blue we thought, why not the flag? I really like the feel of the photos and the wind caught us in just the right places. As you know if you've read my blog, this chambray shirt is a big part of my everyday wardrobe. What can I say? A chambray shirt makes almost any outfit better.

It's funny because as much as I loved this outfit, I haven't worn the jeans since! It's just so hot down here in Florida that I haven't thought about putting on pants in weeks! Skirts and shorts, folks. That's how you beat the humidity.

However, I think I may be able to incorporate these babies into my summer travel wardrobe, if plans to head north allow. They could perhaps even be worn out at night this summer with a black and white polka dot cropped top and some cone shaped heels. I can see it now!

In the midst...

It's one of those weeks, folks. I've been feeling unfortunately uninspired, due to my lack of blogging. I find that this style blog is quite cyclical in that way. If I happen to be in the midst of a bummer day or week what have you, I'll forgo writing the blog for a bit. The problem is, when I neglect the blog (which is one of a handful of things that brings me a feeling of accomplishment or fulfillment) it just worsens my attitude! Okay, enough of Debbie Downer for the day....

One thing I'm very happy about are these Dolce Vita flatform sandals. :) In love. I usually skip anything straw or rope for summer because to be quite honest, I just want summer to be over as fast as it started. I know that's like blasphemy to some people. But, if you had lived in the stifling Florida heat your entire life and were used to daily 50% humidity, you might feel the same. HOWEVER, these sandals are a bit of summer that make me smile. They're also extremely comfortable which makes them suitable for everyday work wear! Nice.

A Little Fancy...

On the rare occasion I get a day off and don't actually find myself obligated to do this thing or the other, I love to chill. Some days, you just have to. On these days, my outfits tend to be quite low key. You won't catch me in anything but a flat and I can promise my hair won't be straight or blown out. Today...is one of those days. But, instead of just resigning myself to a white tank and cutoffs, I threw on this lovely fringe cape. I feel like a gypsy in it, which is kind of fabulous. I have a feeling it's going to pop up in several outfit posts throughout the summer, even though it's black, and drapey. I LOVE fringe. I can't help myself! And anything that even slightly smacks of a vintage grandmotherly print....count me in.

Myth

I'm going to see Beach House tomorrow night! Legitimately...so so so excited. Beach House is just one of those bands that can not put out a bad album. So dreamy. I can't wait for their newest, Bloom to come out next week considering that I'm already obsessed with this song. I am also going to be incredibly tired because I'm leaving for Tennessee at 5 am the following day! Totally worth it. But, in order to save on sleep, I need to hit the hay like...yeah right now. :) Vacation posts will certainly be up next week!

We'll All Take Our Chances....

I’m obsessed with print right now. I found this floral print vintage dress when I was in Savannah last week at Civvies. I feel like it’s such a rare thing to find a dress like this that doesn’t require any alterations (which I wouldn’t have minded providing at the price I snatched this up for.) I got lucky!

It (like this dress) also blows in the wind when I walk and I’m pretty obsessed with that. J

Breather...

You know that rare feeling when you’ve been working really hard and then you realize….you can actually chill for a couple days? (Tomorrow is my “weekend.”) It is a GREAT feeling. I need it. I have been working really hard at work and on some personal stuff lately. Man, am I exhausted!

Lots of inspiration browsing, tea, and perhaps a bit of thrifting? Maybe even a trip to the beach if I’m feeling crazy. I foresee a lot of The Xx on Pandora. J

I’m excited about tomorrow’s post! I’m going to feature my April Birchbox! J It’s a good one this month!
